Padma Lakshmi is a real pizza pleaser.
On Friday night the “Top Chef” judge donated and personally delivered 150 pizzas to striking workers at Hunt’s Point Produce Market in the Bronx.
The workers have been asking for a $1 an hour pay raise plus better healthcare coverage to meet rising costs due to the pandemic. The market, which has received millions in PPP loans, supplies over half the produce in the tri-state area to various grocery stores.
An insider told Page Six that the television personality “just wanted to do something to show her support when she read about the situation.”
Also joining in on the pizza party was Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has been a vocal supporter of the strikers.
A.O.C tweeted out her thanks to Lakshmi for showing up in “solidarity” and keeping the “party bumping.”
Maybe the pizza party helped create some good will because later that night The Teamsters announced a tentative agreement with management – potentially ending a nearly week-long strike.
Teamsters Local 202 “will be presenting the agreement to members tomorrow for a vote to settle the strike,” the local tweeted.
“Thanks NYC for all your support in this fight!”
